How the Jardin d’Hiver started

A tribute to Marie-Paule

It all began in a beautiful little Breton village, and more specifically in Marie Paule’s winter garden. She would relax in the peace and quiet of her winter garden and enjoy the changing seasons away from the noise of the city. She would grow delicious fruit and vegetables and herbs, and she would use them to make her food tastier.

Half indoors and half outdoors, Marie-Paule would enjoy the company of her daughters, grandchildren, friends and loved ones, in her winter garden. During these get-togethers, there would be much chatting, laughing, smiling and enjoying new food, in unique, natural, warm friendly surroundings.

But the key to her winter garden was her greenhouse; the place she concealed her secret garden, with a shaft of light shimmering on her plants, giving them their distinctive colour.

Many years later, her grandson David wished to share the spirit of the winter garden with the people of Brest.

So, he created the “Jardin d’Hiver” (Winter Garden) around this idea, offering the pleasure of tasty natural eco-friendly food in a place where it is easy to unwind.
